Style: Post. It is best known for bright sky-blue color, sometimes with a white, black or pyrite matrix. Precious red coral is the skeleton of a slow-growing marine animal, harvested in the Mediterranean Sea and the western Pacific. Its color ranges from orange-red to deep oxblood red. Mother of pearl is nacre, the iridescent inner layer of pearl oyster and other mollusk shells. It shows a soft white luster with flashes of pink, green and blue. Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver, often stamped .925, alloyed with copper for strength. It develops a soft patina over time that a silver polishing cloth removes. Store earrings in pairs, away from moisture, and wipe them with a soft cloth; keep chemical silver dips away from stones and shell. Turquoise is the birthstone for December. Much turquoise on the market is stabilized to improve hardness and color stability; treatment of this stone is not documented.

Cared for thoughtfully, a handcrafted piece is meant to last generations. A few essentials for this one:
Turquoise
A soft, porous stone β keep it dry and away from perfume, lotion, and household chemicals so its color stays true.
Sterling silver
Buff with a soft polishing cloth β leaving intentional oxidation intact β and store airtight to slow tarnish.
Last on, first off
Put your piece on after fragrance, lotion, and hairspray β and take it off before water, sleep, and sport.
Store with care
Keep each piece in its own soft pouch, away from direct sun and damp, so softer stones never meet harder ones.

The Kingman mine in Mohave County, Arizona has operated continuously since the late nineteenth century, producing turquoise in a remarkable color range from sky blue to deep blue-green, with its spider-web matrix specimens ranking among the most valued turquoise in the world.

From its discovery in the copper-rich hills near Globe, Arizona in the 1920s to the mine's permanent closure in 2012, Sleeping Beauty turquoise has undergone a transformation from abundant commercial stone to one of the most coveted minerals in the gemological world, with no new material produced since the final extraction.
